Origin: Once a part of Kingston, this area was called Kingston East Parish. It was granted a separate charter in 1738 after some residents petitioned Governor Jonathan Belcher of Massachusetts that its location was too distant from the Kingston school and place of worship.

Population, Year of the First Census Taken: 358 residents in 1790

Population Trends: East Kingston's population grew four times larger over fifty years, increasing by a total of 1,335 residents between 1950's population of 449 and 2000's population of 1,784 residents. Decennial growth rates were above the statewide average, ranging from a 19 percent increase between 1980-1990 to a 46 percent increase between 1960-1970. The 2003 Census estimate for East Kingston was 1,967 residents, which ranked 139th among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns.

Population Density, 2003: 184.2 persons per square mile of land area. East Kingston contains 9.9 square miles of land area and 0.1 square miles of inland water area.
